Fictitious order of mammals. The sole inhabitants of an isolated Pacific archipelago, they evolved from a shrew-like ancestor into such varied forms as worm-like beings and large predators. They became extinct when the islands sank into the ocean due to atomic bomb testing; all scientists studying the creatures perished with them.
Variant form of of Irish searbhónta, "servant," listed in an Irish-English dictionary. Technically the word is a correct, though archaic, spelling; but dictionaries typically do not include such variants, so it is most likely intended as a copyright trap. None of the additional letters affect pronunciation.
