  • I heard this word used in Bucks County, PA for exceptionally roughed or ugly large work shoes, sometimes because they were covered in manure or mud. As a result, the word had pejorative connotations.

  • I heard this phrase a lot in Bucks County, PA during the 1960's: "for life sakes . . . " as in "For life sakes get it together; this isn't a good time to lose your head."
