- The flower-animals, or animal-flowers; a former class or large group of zoöphytes, inexactly equivalent to the modern class Actinozoa (which see). By some, who have included the Polyzoa under zoöphytes, Anthozoa has been made the other and prime division of zoöphytes, and has been divided into Hydroida, Asteroida, and Helianthoida. The Anthozoa have also been divided into Actiniidæ, Zoanthidæ, Xeniidæ, Alcyoniidæ, Pennatulidæ, Tubiporidæ, Caryophyllidæ, and Gorgoniidæ.
