  1. from Old French fians, fiens, fient, fian, fien, fiem, fime, dung, French dial. fian = Provencal fem = Catalan fems = Spanish fimo = Italian fimo, fime, from Latin fimus, dung, dirt. A parallel form appears in Old French fiente, French fiente = Provencal fenta, modern Provencal fento, fiento = Catalan fempta, from Latin as if *fimĭta, perhaps an alteration of Latin fimētum, a dunghill: see fime.
