The Slough of Despond that sarra points out, for everyone's edification, hosts a "Slough of Despond 50 Km Road Race." That oughta get people out of the doldrums. ;-) And really, it does look as though it has perked up a bit. Oct 4, 2007
sarra I've always taken “slough of despond” to be a humorous phrase or perhaps an intentional malapropism for some more respectable phrase I wasn't familiar with; I'm surprised to find it's from the Pilgrim's Progress!
There is (quite apart from the actual famously despondent Slough) a real Slough of Despond, near Wiarton in Ontario, Canada. This could be it. Oct 4, 2007
