  • A member of Generation X.

  • I disagree strenuously. It has always been Gen xer.

    July 1, 2009

  • Surely it should be Gen X-er. Hyphenless xer (pronounced */zer/, */kser/?) makes no sense, except perhaps facetiously.

    July 1, 2009

  • I can see 'exer' as the pronunciation; it would make me think of 'Gen-X-er' straight away, though I'm by no means schooled in that particular body of slang.

    July 1, 2009

  • I'm with rolig. The hyphen has to be there, else it doesn't make sense.

    July 1, 2009

  • *wonders what alphabet generation I'm a member of*

    July 1, 2009

  • Rolig's seems to be an elegant solution. Any other spelling implies a different pronunciation and an obfuscated meaning. IMO.

  • I think that, without the hyphen, this reads like a German with a chest infection trying to pronounce Cher's name. I'm also more familiar with Gen X-er as the way to designate a member of the cohort in question.

  • *thinks about German pronunciation of Cher's name*

    *really should be working instead*

*decides the German pronunciation of Cher's name is far more interesting anyhow*
