The myriad scattered and sundry islands called "keys" that fringe the coastlines of peninsular Florida are collected in this list, beginning with Man Key and Woman Key. Dildo Key, one of the more *colorful* names, was likely named for a species of cactus.

There are numerous instances of different islands bearing the same or very similar names. To name a few: there are 2 separate small islands named Bush Key; two islands called Money Key; two named Cotton Key; two different Cabbage Keys; two called Pigeon Key; two named Panther Key; three called Snake Key; four different Rattlesnake Keys; three called Pumpkin Key; three separate islands named Crawl Key; two called Channel Key; two named Fiesta Key; two different islands called Duck Key; two Middle Keys and the Middle Keys; a Crane Key and 2 different Crane Keys; a Water Key and the Water Keys; two different Grassy Keys and the Grassy Keys; Barrocouta Key and Barracuda Key; two Raccoon Keys and three Coon Keys. There are at least 4 different small islands named Deer Key. The historic town of Cedar Key sits on Way Key, one of the Cedar Keys group of islands.

Any islands named "cayo" are listed as well.

I don't include the Old Dan Mangrove or Rattlesnake Lumps and other islands not named "key(s)", though most do not differ substantially from other keys listed here except by name.

Those curious about the origins and the former or historical names of keys listed here would do well to consult this reference.

    I think this should be called the "Florida Key List", since it doesn't seem to be restricted to keys in the Florida Keys (which would be the "Florida Keys Key List"). By the way, there are two Sand Keys in Florida, only one of them in the Keys.

    Thanks, moll - I really do appreciate your exactitude. I've attempted in the list description to define the "keys" ever so broadly, as Florida islands called "keys", though most of them would not, as you inferred, find themselves on a list of "The Florida Keys". Many are within the environs of those Keys whose names are more familiar.

    Part of my reasoning behind naming this list as I did was to jar awareness of the myriad "other" small islands called "keys" that fringe the coasts of peninsular Florida.
