yarb This list really is a shower of piss. Dec 27, 2009
milosrdenstvi I think he was just jealous, 'cause his name was Wilfred Funk. Things would have been different if his name had been Melody Murmuring... Dec 27, 2009
dontcry I'm thinking that Mr. Funk's intention was to honor words with the most beautiful definitions or sentiments of the time - not the words with the most beautiful pronunciations. Either way, I disagree with his list. Dec 27, 2009
cmcmyriff I agree with 'seanahan' because "diarrhea" is found on some so-called beautiful word lists. 'Kinda like' a type of form(sound) over function(denotation).

cmcmyriff About sixty years ago, my third grade teacher, Miss Stapleton said that "cellar door" and "murmur" were the most beautiful words.

Tiffany Ameh Wow...this list makes me want to relax to the tranquil melody of the wind chimes' lullaby as a stretch out next to a murmuring stream and watch the luminous, golden sun shine through the waterfall's mist at dawn. (Milosrdenstvi threw down the gauntlet and I couldn't resist....9 out of ten aint bad. lol) Dec 24, 2009
Jubjub Maybe unicorns too. Dec 22, 2009
Jubjub I'm surprised this list doesn't have cute, frolicking, faeries, hugging, and kissing on it. Dec 22, 2009
yarb Get down with the J-Funk! Mr Children with slap-bass and a hammond! Dec 22, 2009
Jubjub I second! Dec 22, 2009
madmouth I nominate Wilfred J. Funk for the most beautiful word in the English language Dec 22, 2009
seanahan My chief objection is that I don't find these words particularly "beautiful". It can't be a measure of the inherit nature of the concept, because of hush, so it must be from the sounds? Dec 21, 2009
grantbarrett Ooh, nice: "wistful-pastoral wallpaper." Need to favorite that. Dec 19, 2009
bilby All cut from a roll of wistful-pastoral wallpaper. Dec 19, 2009
milosrdenstvi I think my chief objection to this list -- although all of them are very nice words indeed -- is that I could far too easily put them all into one sentence. Dec 19, 2009
