  • Inadequate invertebrates are both, and even the brave are still spineless.

  • A song by the Polkaholics.

  • My first thought was no -eds or -ings because they throw an extra vowel in play, whereas -s does not; however, I'm open to suggestions. I'll cross it out for now—let's see what you've got!

Thanks for the Ukrainian catch. I'll try to figure out how that slipped in there. Ah ha! My program had a bug: the strip all non-vowels part was case sensitive, thus ignoring "U."

  • Hmm. Good point; however, we have "valve" singular. I don't know what to do! I shall ponder this.

  • These look good, but I think "grilles" should simply be "grille." Do you agree? Anyhow, thanks for squeezing these in :)

  • "And daddy won't you take me back to Muhlenberg County
Down by the Green River where Paradise lay
Well, I'm sorry my son, but you're too late in asking
Mister Peabody's coal train has hauled it away"

  • Yes, I've been playing—or, more accurately, practicing—regularly for about 1.5 years now; that's how long I've been taking private lessons on the piano accordion (Stradella system).

I do like a fair amount of Those Darn Accordions' material and I've seen them in concert once.

I also enjoy Dominique Rivière, Buckwheat Zydeco, DeVotchKa, Phil Cunningham, Stas Venglevski, Yann Tiersen, and Lars Hollmer to name a few.

To date, my favorite accordion song is "Boeves Psalm" by Lars Hollmer. It's beautiful. Absolutely beautiful.

  • "If you ever need to measure something but can’t find a ruler nearby then Screen-o-Meter is for you. Screen-o-Meter displays a measure tape image on your screen letting you quickly find out how large or small things are."

  • That's great! Keep at it. I played seriously for about 10 years, then not-so-seriously for a few more.

The mention of all those musicians makes me want to load up my iPod with more accordion music. :-)

  • Accordions are wonderful things.

Well, effigy, I kind of drifted away from it when I went to college. Though I still have my original instrument. :-) Do you play regularly? And further, are you a fan of Those Darn Accordions?

    Oct 22, 2008

  • Yarb, I too know almost nothing about accordions yet have a thing for them.

    What is it about accordions?!

Welcome to Wordie, effigy. (And thanks for involuntarily hosting an accordion discussion.)

  • Hi effigy. Ditto on the accordion list. And yarb, I never knew! I used to play one myself. :-)

  • Hello effigy - welcome to wordie. I like your accordions list! I don't know much about accordions, but I have a thing for them.
