sionnach Well, we know that potheen is "Whiskey distilled in a small way privately or illicitly by the Irish peasantry".
We also know that the suffix 'een' is a diminutive.
Thus, poth must mean large quantities of illicitly distilled Irish whiskey. Probably by whole collectives of the peasantry.
