asativum Comprise is often misused in place of compose. Comprise means to be composed of, or to contain/embrace -- so to use an example from the American Heritage (fourth edition, quotes from bartleby.com): "The traditional rule states that the whole comprises the parts and the parts compose the whole. In strict usage: The Union comprises 50 states. Fifty states compose (or constitute or make up) the Union." Dec 18, 2006
