- n. A genus of leaf-beetles or chrysomelids, with short antennæ, tibiæ externally grooved, and pronotum laterally projected. It is represented in all parts of the world; about 30 species are known, of which 8 inhabit the United States, as L. scripta, the cottonwood leaf-beetle, which often does great damage by defoliating the groves of Populus monilifera in the Western States, and also feeds in the larval state on willows.
