  • mechanolatry Latin -- toothed vagina
Various cultures have folk tales about women with toothed vaginas, frequently told as cautionary tales warning of the dangers of sex with strange women and to discourage the act of rape.

A great tongue-in-cheek movie concerning this is 'Teeth'. I highly recommend it. It is more dark humour than horror, if that helps you. Jan 29, 2009

  • skipvia A truly...unique version of vagina dentata appeared in a 1959 Soviet science fiction film called Nebo Zovyot, a pioneering film that garnered some critical respect until Roger Corman bought it, recruited a young Francis Ford Coppola to rework it, and released it to American audiences as "Battle Beyond the Sun." That film is pretty awful, but when the battle between two monsters begins it's pretty difficult not to understand why "vagina dentata" is a keyword for this movie on IMDB. Feb 29, 2008

  • seanahan I first heard this word in Snow Crash, possibly the perfect SF novel. It is a device which sits in the woman's vagina, essentially a sharp needle filled with a chemical to knock out a would be rapist. Feb 29, 2008

  • chained_bear John... uhh... No comment. Feb 27, 2008

  • john That's... weird. Not least because I believe a fair number of men have encountered vaginas in, uh, contexts other than an autopsy. And survived. Feb 27, 2008

  • muamor Wow, the female sexuality raises fear wherever it goes... First autopsies made to women were quite a relief to some people (=men, since all the pathologists were men around that time). Look! No teeth!! Whew!
