  • abraxaszugzwang interesting stuff. I agree. I much prefer quality gameplay to graphics. I also prefer games that don't require weeks to understand. I wish I had more time for a game or two. It also helps to have friends who are into games, and those I'm lacking. Feb 11, 2007

  • uselessness I wouldn't call StarCraft "new" at all, but I do enjoy a good RTS game. WarCraft III was a blast, but my favorite of all time would have to be Command & Conquer: Red Alert 2. Awesome, awesome game.

    But it's the Call of Duty games and endless Pokemon sequels, the attitude that graphics supercede gameplay, the controllers with 300 button schemes you have to memorize before you can even play, the other players online that are downright offensive, these are the things that bug me. The legions of 360 and PS3 fanboys hyping their overpriced bloatware. The shallowness of the industry as a whole.

    Forgive my rant. I grew up playing the NES and Sega Genesis, and text adventures on the PC. The classics from that era were extremely detailed in the right ways. Sure, maybe you couldn't make out a character's eye wrinkles, but who cares? The games had some substance. Now it's a bunch of overly complicated eye candy that I just can't get into. I feel like an old man too.

    Of course, I generalize. Not all new games are bad. I was surprised how enjoyable Halo 2 was, for example. The Burnout games were fun, too. For the most part, I just prefer games that are simple to learn, that you can play to kill five or ten minutes and then get back to your life. Most newer stuff is too involving for that. I am optimistic about the Nintendo Wii though, and I hope to pick one up soon. The folks behind that system seem to have the same priorities as I. Feb 11, 2007

  • abraxaszugzwang what bugs you? I don't have time to play anymore. I once tried to play StarCraft and died in .05 seconds, or so it seemed. I felt like an old man. Feb 11, 2007
