hernesheir Just spoke to a friend from the Dominican Republic who related to me the ingredients of a drink she prepared to calm/treat symptoms of a cold/flu she thought was coming on: beaten egg yolks, milk, freshly-brewed and strained coffee, a dram or two of some hard liquor, and grated nutmeg. All frothed by hand prior to consuming with a wooden 'batidor' like the one I purchased in Mexico in the late 1970's for frothing hot chocolate. Oct 2, 2009
bilby I've read a bit lately about cold-press brewing. Oct 2, 2009

sionnach Given the proliferation of entries on this list, maybe Lea should consider writing for Wired.com.

fbharjo How about New Orleans coffee with chicory cafe du monde and beignets! Mar 9, 2009
lea Tell me about it! It is getting boring and I hear "woohoo" inside me everytime I see a word that starts with something else than "k" or "q". Interesting, though. I think I'll call my coffee nitta paisiksikimi from now on. Mar 9, 2009
dontcry I find it really interesting that almost without exception, around the world, the word for coffee starts with the "k" sound.
Makes me wonder if other common "food" stuff (like milk, bread, meat, etc.) is the same -- not the "k" sound, of course, but a common sound. My extremely limited knowledge of languages tells me, no. Mar 8, 2009
lea Yes, sionnach. Yes. No. Yes. No. Yes! Bloody interesting. Mar 7, 2009
sionnach Doesn't this page need a link to the mildly disgusting kopi luwak page? Mar 7, 2009
sionnach See Juan Valdez. This week in our "myths and legends" class, we learned about the Ethiopian legend about the origin of the discovery of coffee, involving wired goats and an observant goatherd.
For information on assorted ways of drinking coffee in Spain, see this link. Mar 7, 2009
lea "A symbol of cowardice?". I will happily wear white weather, if it keeps me away from all the decaffeinated stuff in the world. Mar 7, 2009
bilby Just as well. I venture not to the realms of decaf, lest someone post me a white feather. Mar 7, 2009
lea Yes you dare. Mar 7, 2009
bilby Dare I suggest coffee? Mar 7, 2009
rolig I know. It's right up there with "Please" and "Thank you." Indispensable. Mar 7, 2009
lea Thanks, rolig! I need to know all this, since I am in the air; I do not know where I shall land and coffee is the first thing on my mind after landing.. ;o) Mar 7, 2009
rolig Nice list! Just what I want first thing in the morning (or afternoon, as the case may be). I see you are already listing the Slovene and BCSM (Bosno-Croato-Serbo-Montenegrin) kava (sans accent), though Serbians seem to prefer kafa (or кафа in Cyrillic spelling). In Russian, coffee would be кофе (transliterated kofe). Also, my friends in Maryland fondly refer to this beverage as java (no matter where the beans originate). Mar 7, 2009
