  Thanks, mollusque! I've never heard of ackamarackus or galimatias, and never heard flannel used this way. Now that I check the OED, though, it seems that ackamarackus may have been coined by Damon Runyan, and galimatias may be related to gallimaufry. Oh, the fun.... :-)
