marky swami, his divine grace, also these maybe: http://www.wordnik.com/lists/yes-sir-no-ma-am-hai-senpai Jan 25, 2013
marky mademoiselle! Jan 22, 2013
bilby I could, but every time someone says antonomasia I start singing the word to the tune of Guantanamera and get nothing done all day. Yo soy un hombre sincero! Jan 17, 2013
ruzuzu Can you steal anything from my antonomasia list? Jan 17, 2013
bilby I have duly added it, Your Excellency. Jan 17, 2013
ry meinheer could be added, but note it is nowhere actually defined Jan 17, 2013
marky yeah that was something we had before, i need to email Erin about that. export list to file. let me check! Jan 14, 2013
bilby Marky, just the nerd I was looking for! Is there any (easy...I wish) way to strip the words out of a Wordnik list as plain text? Without all the other guff that's on the page? i.e. I would like to convert lists to textfiles with one word/phrase per line, and that's it. Jan 14, 2013
bilby Thank you. Jan 14, 2013
marky just 'lord' as in lord vader. Jan 14, 2013
bilby Any more suggestions? I finally have something useful to do with this list so the betterer it is the superduperer the other thing.. Jan 13, 2013
bilby Plenty of scope for someone to do a list of military/police ranks and titles. I have a few of the common ones, must be lots more. Dec 4, 2007
reesetee "I'm just bower-birding in classic Wordie fashion!"
Bilby, that is a magnificent description of what Wordies do! (And I like this list, too.) Dec 4, 2007
minerva Keep it coming, Sire! Dec 4, 2007
chained_bear I believe your eminence is the proper way to greet a cardinal of the Catholic church. Cool list, bilby!
Are you opposed to Mister (or Madame) President? Ambassador?
edit: just saw sionnach's first comment--sorry, I was responding to bilby's (surely tongue-in-cheek...?) comment about there being "somebody" eminent enough, blah blah... Dec 4, 2007
bilby The Lama has been granted an audience, thanks for sending him around. I had a look at the Japanese situation a while back. I don't pretend this to be an internationally inclusive list, I'm just bower-birding in classic Wordie fashion! I put some of the Chinese ones in there because the social relationships they relate to are intriguing. -san is in because I had an endearing Japanese flatmate for a while and it was part of our everyday conversations. Dec 4, 2007
vanishedone How about his holiness the Dalai Lama?
If you're going to include Japanese honorifics like -san, have a look at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Japanese_titles. Dec 4, 2007
bilby Hmmm, sounds familiar. Still, there must be someone eminent enough to be Your Eminence so I'll leave that in. Dec 4, 2007
sionnach If you meet a bishop, I believe the correct honorific is "your grace". Dec 3, 2007
bilby Thanks. I'm glad your eminence doesn't apply to rap singers. Dec 3, 2007
sionnach perhaps: "your excellency", "your eminence" (applies to cardinals) Dec 3, 2007
