ruzuzu Oh, that reminds me of a joke!
Ruzuzu: "Say silk three times."
Good sport: "Silk... silk... silk...."
Ruzuzu: "Now, what do cows drink?"
Good sport: "Mil... No! Water!" Sep 1, 2010
dontcry *says melk too* Sep 1, 2010
ruzuzu Oh dear--I hadn't realized there was any other way to say melk. Sep 1, 2010
pterodactyl "Elk milk", for example, is a rhyming phrase for me. (So is "whelk milk", but that's kind of gross.) Sep 1, 2010
pterodactyl Oh man, I still say "melk" for "milk". Perhaps it's a Midwestern thing -- I spent many of my formative years in Illinois. Sep 1, 2010
hernesheir I grew up saying "melk" for "milk". A perfect rhyme for elk, then. Sep 1, 2010
pterodactyl Elk... oh yeah.
Oh well. Sep 1, 2010
bilby ...with a rebel yelk
we cried mork
mork
mork
mork mork mork... Sep 1, 2010
ruzuzu alb? Sep 1, 2010
mollusque Also belk, spelk and yelk. Sep 1, 2010

pterodactyl Oh fond memories... this was one of the first lists I ever created. I remember well the friendly welcome that the Wordies gave me. :-)
I revisit the list now on the happy occasion of having noticed that the word "whelk" is rhymeless. Yes! Another word for the list!
Any more contributions?

pterodactyl Thanks, mollusque & yarb! You make Wordie the finest kind of edutainment. :-) May 12, 2008
yarb Alp is not just a proper noun - it can mean "any high, esp. snowcapped, mountain(s)" or "a bullfinch" (SOED5). May 12, 2008
mollusque Halp! The lowly salp has extended a palp to scalp an alp. May 12, 2008
pterodactyl It does indeed, Asativum. However, one of the unwritten rules of this list is "proper nouns don't count". May 12, 2008
asativum Doesn't Alp rhyme with scalp? May 11, 2008
pterodactyl Good catch, mollusque -- thank you! Not only have you helped my list, you've taught me the word zarf, an excellent word if I ever saw one. May 11, 2008
mollusque I've harf a mind to tell you that barf rhymes with scarf and zarf. May 11, 2008
pterodactyl Thanks to juliah and Papageno for their lists of rhymeless words, from which I shall respectfully pilfer in order to expand this list. Mar 14, 2008
vanishedone 'Of all our many English rhymes,
There's none, they say, for month;
I've tried and failed a hundred times,
Then made it the hundred and oneth.'
...Which 'should' of course be 'hundred and first', so the challenge is still open. I don't know who wrote the verse, unfortunately.
Edit: oh, and cairn also rhymes with Nairn. Mar 13, 2008
gangerh Tilth.
Pulp.

yarb Bairn rhymes with cairn. How about filth or gulp? Mar 13, 2008
pterodactyl There are loads and loads of polysyllabic words with no rhymes. The real challenge is finding monosyllabic words with no rhymes.
Hence the list. Mar 13, 2008
