Long ago, I learned a useful habit from a good friend: Every time he looked up a word in his dictionary, he’d put a mark next to it. His explanation for this was vague at best, but I understood after trying it myself. To explain, I’d like to employ a metaphor involving labyrinths and string or wilderness and blazes (probably the latter, because then I could extend it into something about exploring systematically, and possibly on to cartography—although that might be a bit far, because that would be more like drawing etymological trees and such, which kind of sounds like a cool idea), but it’s past bedtime.

Anyway, marking the screen with a pencil is counterproductive, so I made this list. It’s for me, not you. Go make your own. (Don’t get lost.)
