  1. n. An instrument for indicating the velocity or pressure of the wind; a wind-gage. Casella's portable anemometer, designed for measuring the velocity of air-currents in mines and ventilating shafts, consists of a wind-wheel attached to a counting arrangement. Anemometers for indicating velocity are commonly formed of plane surfaces or drums exposed to the wind, and so arranged as to yield to its pressure and indicate the amount by their movements.
