ruzuzu Gah! I knew it! Jan 19, 2011
chained_bear *tenting fingers* Mwahahahaha... Jan 18, 2011
ruzuzu That link isn't going to lead me down the path toward the Aubrey/Maturin list, is it? Jan 18, 2011
chained_bear You might try checking out this site for a definition. Jan 18, 2011
ruzuzu I arrived here because I was looking for words to... borrow... for my Farriery list. Then I got distracted by feague.
Um, anyway, could you tell me any more about what a cuirboille is? I don't suppose it's something a farrier would use to cure boils. (I mean, it couldn't be that easy, right?) Jan 18, 2011
chained_bear Thanks, sionnach. I like trusty steed a lot even though it sounds more like Lone Ranger-era.
I think noble steed sounds more medieval... which is probably why Shrek co-opted it... Nov 30, 2007
sionnach I love mounted shock combat! (the phrase, rather than the activity). if this were my list, I'd add the term trusty steed, though I suspect it doesn't entirely fit the medieval context. Nov 8, 2007
chained_bear If it really were a horse's-eye view, I should probably include feague.... *thinking* Nov 7, 2007
yarb Pshaw. I'm not bugged really. I can understand that you're taking a horse's eye view of medieval combat here. Nov 7, 2007
chained_bear Well, halberd and shield are words related to medieval combat. I'd add ground if it were clearly related to medieval combat and not a hundred other things. If they bug you that much, don't read them. :) Fair warning--here are some other words that might bug you on this list: helm, archer, articulated, mace, and sword. Just a word of caution! Nov 7, 2007
yarb Ah, right. And when war-horses were brought down by halberds, they fell on the ground. So you should probably include that too, no?
Mounted shock combat is simply magnificent; thank you. Nov 7, 2007
chained_bear Knights rode horses, and carried shields--which by the transitive property means that horses also carried shields.
If knights were dismounted or lost their horses--and even if they didn't--they faced men carrying halberds and pikes. War horses were brought down by these weapons, so if we're talking medieval mounted shock combat, I figured they deserved to be included.
p.s. thanks for reminding me to include mounted shock combat, a great phrase! Nov 7, 2007
yarb What's horse-related about shield and halberd?
Palfrey and helm are gorgeous words though. Nov 7, 2007
reesetee Hell of a list title you have there, chained_bear.
Also, I like the list. :-) Nov 7, 2007
