ruzuzu The current definition over on capitonym has "meaning" and "sound." I've edited the description for this list accordingly.
The fox is always right. Nov 5, 2010
ruzuzu I've been thinking that I should have used a different name for this list--"Capital Capitals" or something....
The lack of capitalization in YOW made it possible to ignore proper nouns, trademarks, etc. (everything was equal). Now that we can differentiate, it seemed as if we needed a triage unit to start to deal with the pairs of words where capitalization actually makes a difference (or at least the ones that bug us the most).
Respectfully submitted,

rolig I would question only the inclusion of commercial names, such as Fiat, Time, and Life, which would basically mean you would include any word that had a magazine or newspaper named after it (Look/look, Times/times, Sun/sun etc.). Nov 19, 2009
rolig Great list, Ru! I love "Tangier/tangier" – never considered that before. Nov 19, 2009
milosrdenstvi As a young child I was amused by a joke about an accident in a restaurant, involving the fall of Turkey, the ruin of Greece, and the breaking up of China... Nov 17, 2009
ruzuzu I know... in my heart I felt I was cheating by going with the current Wikipedia definition: "a word that changes its meaning (and sometimes pronunciation)."
Wordnik doesn't have a definition for capitonym up yet. Nov 17, 2009
sionnach But, but, but... I thought to be a capitonym the pronunciation of the word in question has to change, depending on the capitalization status. See, e.g., my necessarily skimpier version of this list. March may not apply to my august list. Nov 17, 2009
