About

Here's a fun little word game that might appeal to my fellow Wordies. The object of this game is to create the longest possible word, using only the official two-letter abbreviations of U.S. states and Canadian provinces. For example: DE + NY = DENY. LA + ME = LAME. States and provinces may be combined in any order. Each state or province may be used only once per word. Proper nouns are unsportsmanlike.

The acceptable abbreviations are as follows: AK, AL, AS, AR, AZ, CA, CO, CT, DE, FL, GA, GU, HI, IA, ID, IL, IN, KS, KY, LA, MA, MD, ME, MI, MN, MO, MS, MT, NC, ND, NE, NH, NJ, NM, NV, NY, MP, OH, OK, OR, PA, PR, RI, SC, SD, TN, TX, VI, UT, VA, VT, WA, WI, WV, WY, AB, BC, MB, NB, NL, NT, NS, NU, ON, PE, QC, SK, YT. And yes, this does include territories such as Guam and Yukon.

    Bilby, I'm pretty sure that abscondent is French, not English, which means that you get double bonus points for (a) noticing that I forgot to specify English, and (b) using this loophole to add a ten-letter word. Well done! Oct 20, 2009
