bilby picot. Jul 17, 2008
colleen frindley, that is the best idea I've heard in forever. Mar 19, 2008
chained_bear Oh, frindley, I am so there. Mar 19, 2008
frindley You have inspired me to begin a list called "His Majesty's Cornetts and Sagbutts" Mar 19, 2008
bilby metallic is a weird kind of name for fabric, not just an adjective. Dec 20, 2007
colleen thanks, bilby! that's a good one! Dec 18, 2007
bilby Batik comes to mind, just because it's so much trouble. Imagine tracing a (negative) design in hot wax, dyeing the fabric, boiling the cloth to get the wax off, re-applying the wax to what is already dyed, dyeing it again to bring out the highlights, boiling it again, etc. Phew! And the term applies to both the fabric and the process. Dec 18, 2007
chained_bear stays? Feb 18, 2007
chained_bear Love this list... I respectfully submit "pinking shears," which I added in a fit of... something... yesterday. Feb 1, 2007
selfishcrab raiment? Jan 24, 2007
colleen slantrhyme, I didn't see your suggestions until just today, thank you for all of them! some I did have already, but most I did not. :) Jan 14, 2007
slantrhyme What a great list! I've always loved the word "placket." And what about petticoat and crinoline and cummerbund . . . nylon, polyester, rayon (not nearly as gauche as they used to be) . . . taffeta, organdy . . . maybe twill and herringbone and houndstooth (to go with tattersall)? . . . mackintosh, overcoat, slicker . . . ? (I'm resisting the temptation to grab my Roget's!) Jan 5, 2007
colleen thanks, bilby! Dec 18, 2006

tankexmortis "Pleat" is one of my favorite fashion-related words, you should add that. :) Dec 3, 2006
