mollusque There's an open list, Let Them Eat Cake..., which includes more than cake. Jul 3, 2009
madmouth oh yeah!
perhaps the southerners just play fast and loose with etymology; my mother's kola? is square about 90% of the time.
is there a cake list? ?upavci--'tufties' or 'fuzzcakes'--ought to have a place to go. Jul 3, 2009
rolig I think the main thing, traditionally, about kola? is that it is ring-shaped. The word comes from kolo, "wheel". Jul 3, 2009
madmouth in SBC, at least, 'kola?' is completely unspecific (just like 'cake'). you can see how many different pictures you get for it on Google images. Jul 3, 2009
rolig You're probably right, Bilby. Here's a picture of kola?. It's definitely, cake-ish, more than potica is. But I suppose I have come to think of "cake" as what the Slovenes (and many others) call torta, which is lighter, sweeter, creamier, and certainly not as good for you (except emotionally perhaps) as kola? or potica.
But ciabatta should definitely be here. Jul 3, 2009
bilby Isn't kola? cake? At least that's the way my Bosnian friends use it; perhaps different usage in Slovene. See list description above. Jul 3, 2009
rolig Mmm, poga?a! And then there's that Slovene specialty, potica. And don't forget kola?! Jul 3, 2009
madmouth poga?a is a fatty, chunky, layered Yugo bread. Jul 3, 2009
bilby Probably not specific enough. Mar 13, 2009
