  • alexz A timbit is a like a small bite of a donut.

    In donut making, the 'bread' style donuts are cut out in ring shapes and allowed to rise in a proofing oven. The inner 'holes' are seperated out and allowed to rise as little ball shapes and then deep fried.

    So a timbit tastes like a mini donut. Having been to Australia and eating TimTams once, timtams are like a chocolate/sugary treat.

  • alexz I'm proud to say that I've been awarded the Canadian Heritage TimBit award for documenting these over 600 words for ice and snow. I was snowed in for 7 weeks, and had this list to occupy my time during those darkest days of winter. Apr 1, 2013

    I made it by starting with a dozen well known words for snow and ice, performing the reverse definition to get more ideas. I looked up things in wikipedia, used google book search to find 'dictionary snow' 'dictionary ice' 'dictionary frost' to get more reverse dictionary results. I ended up finding a sailors word list, meteorological texts, scientific texts on crystal growth, ski word lists. Environment Canada will still have a few unlisted words and terms. At the scientific pages, I found that theres 17 types of base crystal shapes that a snowflake or ice crystal can start out as.
